1. A subsea tensioning apparatus for tensioning a tethering member, wherein the tethering member is configured to tether a subsea blowout preventer (BOP) to a subsea mount arranged on a sea bed, the tensioning apparatus comprising:
a first tensioning mechanism configured to apply a first tension to the tethering member; and
a second tensioning mechanism configured to subsequently apply a second tension to the tethering member, wherein the second tension is greater than the first tension,
wherein the first tensioning mechanism is moveable by the second tensioning mechanism and the second tensioning mechanism is configured to move the first tensioning mechanism to apply the second tension to the tethering member.
