1. A method comprising:
receiving, at a cluster controller of a first cluster, a request for pairing a first datastore of the first cluster to a second datastore of a second cluster, wherein each of the first cluster and the second cluster includes a plurality of datastores;
storing mapping information indicating that the first datastore is paired with the second datastore; and
when the second datastore is not functioning, instantiating a virtual machine in a node of the first cluster using information stored in the first datastore, wherein the first cluster and the first datastore are selected based on the pairing of the first datastore to the second datastore and the mapping information.
