1. A direct to metal coating composition comprising:
(a) a binder resin system comprising a malonate-acryloyl resin that forms a coating by Michael addition reaction;
(b) a plurality of filler and extender pigments having median particle size of 0.1 to 10 μm comprising
(i) between 5 to 50 wt %, spherical shaped pigment;
(ii) between 2 to 30 wt acicular shaped pigment; and
(iii) between 1 to 30 wt % platy-shaped pigment; and
(c) a corrosion inhibiting pigment,
wherein the coating composition is applied to a substrate as a direct-to-metal coating having creep from scribe of less than 3 mm after 500 hours of salt spray testing according to ASTM B117, and color change (ΔE) of less than about 0.5 after 1200 hours of uv exposure in Xenon Accelerated Weather testing according to ASTM G155-05a Cycle 7A.
