1. A system for determining road slipperiness, the system comprising:
a vehicle-mounted image sensor, for a vehicle, that is directed to a road surface and that captures an image of the road surface;
a controller that:
(i) receives the image of the road surface from the vehicle-mounted image sensor;
(ii) analyzes the image of the road surface from the vehicle-mounted image sensor to estimate one or more of: (i) a degree to which road markings painted on the road surface have faded, (ii) an age of the road, or (iii) an age of the road markings painted on the road surface;
(iii) estimates a road surface condition indicating a slipperiness of the road surface based on the analysis;
(iv) generates a slippage factor representing the estimated road surface condition; and
(v) when the slippage factor representing the estimated road surface condition exceeds a predetermined threshold, decelerates the vehicle.
