1. A computer-implemented method performed by an edge server co-located with a lighting installation, the method comprising:
receiving a message from a cloud layer, wherein the message comprises a command identifying a lighting behavior;
translating the message to determine the lighting behavior;
computing a plurality of lighting values based on the lighting behavior and a send rate;
generating a plurality of instructions based on the lighting behavior and the send rate, wherein the plurality of instructions comprise the plurality of lighting values;
inserting the plurality of instructions into a buffer; and
sending, at a repeated interval based on the send rate, a first-in-line instruction in the buffer to the lighting installation.
