1. A collision avoidance and/or pedestrian detection system for a large passenger vehicle, comprising:
a first sensor comprising at least one of: a speed sensor, a global positioning system (GPS) sensor, an accelerometer, or a gyro sensor;
a second sensor mountable to an interior or exterior surface of the vehicle and configured to sense, when present a first hazard in a first field of view responsive to first predetermined criteria and when present a second hazard in a second field of view capable of overlapping with at least a portion of the first field of view responsive to second predetermined criteria; and
a first driver warning system responsive to the first and second sensors generating at least one of: a driver visual warning or a driver audible alarm configured to alert the driver when at least one of: the first hazard or the second hazard is detected, wherein sensitivity of the second sensor is modified responsive to at least one of the location or the driving characteristic of the vehicle.
