1. An apparatus for transdermal delivery of a therapeutic or cosmetic compound, comprising:
an ultrasound generator; and,
a sonotrode connected to the ultrasound generator, the sonotrode including:
a proximal portion;
a neck portion coupled at one end to the proximal portion and terminating at a distal end of the sonotrode, wherein acoustic energy from the ultrasound generator is applied, in use, to a substrate by transmission of ultrasound through the proximal and neck portions; and,
an elongated cavity having an open end located at the distal end of the sonotrode and extending towards the proximal portion, the elongated cavity configured to receive the compound, the proximal portion including a slot for allowing the compound to be introduced into the elongated cavity.
