1. A method by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
receiving, on a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), a master information block (MIB) including information for a position of a first demodulation reference signal (DMRS);
identifying a mapping type for a downlink from a first mapping type for the downlink and a second mapping type for the downlink;
in case that the mapping type for the downlink is the first mapping type for the downlink, receiving a first DMRS on a third symbol or a fourth symbol of a slot in the downlink based on the information for the position of the first DMRS included in the MIB;
in case that the mapping type for the downlink is the second mapping type for the downlink, receiving a first DMRS on a first symbol of a scheduled downlink data resource; and
in case that the mapping type for the downlink is the first mapping type for the downlink and three additional DMRSs for the downlink are configured by a higher layer signalling, determining that the additional DMRSs for the downlink are positioned on sixth symbol, ninth symbol and twelfth symbol of the slot of duration in 14 symbols, and receiving the additional DMRSs for the downlink on the determined position.
