1. An image decoding method, comprising:
receiving a bitstream comprising a symbol stream,
selecting an arithmetic decoding process corresponding to a symbol segment based on a predetermined condition; and
decoding at least one symbol included in the symbol segment in response to the arithmetic decoding process,
wherein the symbol segment is comprised in the symbol stream, and
wherein the predetermined condition includes comparing the number of symbols included in the symbol segment with a predetermined number.
