1. A method for wireless communication by an apparatus of a wireless communication device, comprising:
obtaining a resource unit (RU) for transmitting a physical (PHY) layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) over a wireless medium, wherein the RU comprises a portion of a tone plan for a frequency spectrum and includes a set of contiguous tones spanning a first bandwidth of the RU;
mapping the set of contiguous tones of the RU to a set of non-contiguous tones distributed across a second bandwidth of the frequency spectrum using a tone mapping distance applicable to an entirety of the second bandwidth of the frequency spectrum, the second bandwidth associated with the set of non-contiguous tones being greater than the first bandwidth associated with the set of contiguous tones, wherein the tone mapping distance indicates a distance or spacing between each pair of adjacent tones of each set of non-contiguous and non-punctured tones; and
transmitting the PPDU over the set of non-contiguous tones distributed across the second bandwidth of the frequency spectrum.
