8. A method of wireless communication performed by a sink wireless device, comprising:
tracking a first retransmission metric that is based on a number of retransmitted packets that the sink wireless device received from a source device;
transmitting, to an assisting wireless device, an acknowledgement assistance request indicating the first retransmission metric tracked by the sink wireless device;
receiving, from the assisting wireless device, a response to the acknowledgement assistance request based on respective values of the first retransmission metric tracked by the sink wireless device and a second retransmission metric tracked by the assisting wireless device; and
wherein the response is an acceptance of the acknowledgement assistance request based on the value of the first retransmission metric being worse than the value of the second retransmission metric.
