1. A method comprising:
receiving, with a controller of an Enhanced Dynamic Range (EDR) projector system, input data, the EDR projector system including a first modulator and a second modulator;
determining, with the controller, whether the input data includes Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI)-compliant image data;
responsive to determining that the input data includes the DCI-compliant image data, creating, with the controller, a virtual single modulator system by producing a flat image on the first modulator; and
controlling, with the controller, the second modulator to modulate light from the first modulator to form a desired image based on the DCI-compliant image data.
