1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores one or more sequences of instructions for processing an upstream signal originating from a node port experiencing ingress, which when executed by one or more processors, cause:
detecting that a particular node port, of a plurality of node ports of a node that provides a service to a plurality of cable modems, is experiencing ingress noise interference;
in response to said detecting that said particular node port, of a plurality of node ports of said node, is experiencing ingress noise interference, (a) analyzing the upstream signal originating from said particular node port to dynamically determine an amount to attenuate said upstream signal, and (b) instructing one or more cable modems, connected to said particular node port of said node, to reduce a number of channels over which said one or more cable modems transmit without instructing other cable modems, connected to other node ports of said node besides said particular node port, to reduce the number of channels over which said other cable modems transmit; and
attenuating said upstream signal said dynamically determined amount prior to said upstream signal being processed at an active device upstream from said particular node port,
wherein said node is a Remote PHY Node or a Remote MACPHY node (RMN).
