1. A method for transmitting a client signal in an optical transport network (OTN), the method comprising:
mapping, by a transmitter, the client signal into an optical channel transport unit-N(OTU-N), wherein a rate of the OTU-N is N times a preset reference rate, the OTU-N has N subframes, each of the N subframes has 4 rows and 3824 columns, and N is a positive integer larger than one; and
sending, by the transmitter, the OTU-N.
