1. A non-transitory machine-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to perform processing comprising:
accessing a master image to be printed;
receiving a scanned image corresponding to the master image;
identifying a color fading defect in a scanned image region of interest (ROI) based on the master image;
determining a severity of the identified color fading defect of the scanned image; and
outputting the determined severity,
wherein identifying the color fading defect comprises:
aligning the scanned image ROI to a corresponding master image ROI, each of the scanned and master image ROIs being a raster image ROI;
segmenting the master image ROI into a plurality of groups of pixels;
extracting select groups of pixels among the plurality of groups of pixels, each of the select groups of pixels having an approximately uniform color;
extracting dominant colors of the select groups of pixels; and
identifying a difference between the extracted dominant colors and corresponding dominant colors in the scanned image.
