15. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
accessing, via one or more hardware processors associated with an electronic memory at a medical records computer system, a first ternary tree having a first set of nodes that correspond to a first set of characters and that are associated with a set of search terminologies;
identifying a second set of terms, associated with an additional search terminology, comprising a second set of characters, wherein at least a portion of the second set of characters matches a portion of the first set of characters;
modifying at least one node of the first ternary tree to create an updated ternary tree having a second set of nodes that correspond to a second set of characters and that are able to support both the set of search terminologies and the additional search terminology,
wherein:
the first set of nodes corresponding to the first set of characters differs from the second set of nodes corresponding to the second set of characters; and
electronically writing, to the electronic memory at the medical records computer system and via the one or more hardware processors, electronic data indicating the updated ternary tree.
