1. A method for controlling a lighting device of a motor vehicle comprising at least one display surface and/or at least one lighting device, the method comprising:
establishing if a communication connection is established between the motor vehicle and an external computing device on which user data associated with a motor vehicle user is stored;
applying a selection criterion to image data included by the user data;
automatically selecting at least one image data capable of being provided by the external computing device based on the selection criteria;
receiving the automatically selected image data;
processing the received image data by applying an image content determination criterion to determine image content information comprising a color gradient of the image data;
controlling the lighting device using the determined image content information to provide a generated image adapted to the color gradient of the at least one selected image data.
