1. A method comprising:
receiving a plurality of microphone signals representing a sound space from a plurality of spatially separated microphones;
analyzing the received plurality of microphone signals to obtain spatial metadata corresponding to the sound space; and
processing the received plurality of microphone signals to obtain a first spatial audio signal,
wherein the first spatial audio signal is configured to be used in both a first rendering mode associated with a playback device in a first orientation and a second rendering mode associated with the playback device after having moved to a second orientation, different than the first orientation, and
wherein in the first rendering mode the spatial metadata is discarded and in the second rendering mode the spatial metadata is configured to be used to process the first spatial audio signal to obtain a second spatial audio signal.
