at least one processing device coupled to the non-volatile memory and volatile memory, wherein the at least one processing device utilizes the volatile memory by storing multiple pieces of information in the volatile memory to thereby reduce load on the system and increase processing speed, wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to:
cause an operator device to display a user interface that comprises:
a plurality of time periods associated with a particular date;
a visual representation of a differential demand for a type of healthcare employee or contractor for the plurality of time periods;

based on the data regarding shift information of the type of healthcare employee or contractor and the data associated with the demand for the type of healthcare employee or contractor, update differential demand for the type of healthcare employee or contractor in the user interface;
based on the differential demand for the type of healthcare employee or contractor, update the suggested shift, wherein the shift length of the suggested shift is based on the at least one resource scheduling parameter;
receive, via the user interface, an operator selection of the first selectable icon;
in response to the operator selection, display, via the user interface, a menu comprising a list of available employees or contractors of the type of healthcare employee or contractor, wherein each entry of the list comprises a second selectable icon;
