1. A method for operating a driver assistance function to support a lateral guidance of a vehicle, the method comprising:
predefining, within a controllable range, a permissible range for a steering torque component which the driver assistance function is able to exert on the steering of the vehicle, and the permissible range of a steering torque component being specified by a permissible upper limit and a permissible lower limit; and
adapting the permissible upper limit and the permissible lower limit as a function of a current vehicle state;
wherein the permissible range is within the controllable range, and
wherein the controllable range is a constant range of controllable steering torques, and is defined by a constant upper limit and a constant lower limit.
