1. A network element, comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media, the one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media comprising instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause one or more components of the network element to perform operations comprising:
determining whether a Selective-Provider Multicast Service Interface (S-PMSI) route is required for a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) environment;
in response to determining that the S-PMSI route is not required for the SD-WAN environment, dropping, by an Overlay Management Protocol (OMP) component, an S-PMSI message received from a management component;
communicating, after dropping the S-PMSI message received from the management component, a state of an S-PMSI to an OMP component; and
determining, in response to receiving the state of the S-PMSI, that the S-PMSI route is required for the SD-WAN environment.
