1. An apparatus for discovering a topology of a network, comprising:
a processor configured to:
perform a continual automated discovery over a selected period of time by:
receiving a selection of the period of time for discovering the topology of the network;
assigning a unique key to each of a first and a second network object based on configuration information associated with the first and the second network objects and refraining from using an Internet Protocol (IP) address, respectively, wherein the unique key comprises a single key that uniquely identifies each network object from each other;
identifying a relationship between the first and the second network object;
identifying the topology of the network for the selected time period based on the unique keys and the relationship; and
displaying, on a display, a graphical representation of the topology for a selected application executing on a selected network object for the selected period of time, wherein the graphical representation shows types of relationships between each network object connected to the selected network object and the selected network object, time dimension data for the network objects connected to the selected network object, and time series data for the network objects connected to the selected network object; and
repeat the process of performing the continual automated discovery for a subsequent period of time.
