1. A method comprising:
generating a synchronous multimedia collaboration session from within a communication channel of a group-based communication system, the synchronous multimedia collaboration session facilitating at least one of audio communications or video communications between members of the group-based communication system within the synchronous multimedia collaboration session;
receiving, via the group-based communication system, a start time selection indicating a start time at which an event is to begin within the synchronous multimedia collaboration session;
causing one or more users to be joined to the synchronous multimedia collaboration session at the start time indicated by the start time selection; and
enabling the one or more users to disconnect from the synchronous multimedia collaboration session at or after an expiration of the event.
