1. A ceiling fan assembly comprising: a motor assembly comprising a rotor assembly and a stator assembly; a downrod having a first and a second end, which is coupled to the motor assembly; a ball mounted to the first end of the downrod; a surface bracket having depending spaced arms supporting a ball seat in which the ball is received; and at least two retainer clips carried by the arm and located above the ball seat, wherein when the ball is seated in the ball seat, the retainer clips overlie at least a portion of the ball to retard the upward movement of the ball.
