1. A sensor device for an ostomy appliance comprising:
a sensor layer comprising:
a substrate;
a plurality of sensing electrodes arranged on a proximal side of the substrate;
a plurality of connecting traces arranged on a distal side of the substrate, wherein the plurality of connecting traces are insulated by the substrate from the proximal side of the substrate, wherein the plurality of sensing electrodes are electrically connected to the plurality of connecting traces through a plurality of vias; and
a plurality of connection points configured to electrically connect the sensor device to a control unit, wherein the plurality of sensing electrodes are electrically connected to the plurality of connection points by the plurality of connecting traces; and
a skin barrier layer arranged adjacent the plurality of sensing electrodes for attaching the sensor device to a user;
wherein the sensor device is configured to detect an ostomy effluent leakage.
