1. A bone screw comprising:
an elongate body having a central longitudinal axis extending between a proximal and a distal end thereof, the distal end including a distal tip having at least one cutting edge extending perpendicular to the central longitudinal axis and configured to cut bone; and
at least one thread formed on the elongate body, the at least one thread extending continuously from the at least one cutting edge to a proximal portion of the elongate body;
wherein the at least one cutting edge is defined by the joinder of a leading surface and a trailing surface;
wherein a first angle between the central longitudinal axis and a first plane defined by the leading surface is between about 5 and 15 degrees; and
wherein a second angle between the central longitudinal axis and a second plane defined by the trailing surface is between about 30 and 95 degrees.
