1. A method of deep frying a food item, the method comprising:
attaching the food item to a removable spit assembly, the removable spit assembly including a front mounting assembly, at least one spit member having a first end and a second end distal to the first end, and a rear mounting assembly comprising a rear spit plate, the front mounting assembly being located at the first end of the at least one spit member and the rear mounting assembly being located at the second end of the at least one spit member;
positioning the rear mounting assembly to reside on a control assembly fixedly mounted to a fryer body whereby the front mounting assembly is elevated entirely above the fryer body, the at least one spit member positioned such that a center point of the rear spit plate remains below an upper edge of the fryer body; and
lowering the front mounting assembly while the rear mounting assembly remains on the fryer body such that at least a portion of the food item is lowered into cooking oil contained within the fryer body.
