1. A method, comprising:
receiving, by a network device in a core network, a message initiated by a user equipment (UE) device outside of the core network, wherein the message includes a request to trigger a Network Slice-Specific Authentication and Authorization (NSSAA) procedure, and wherein the request includes an Extensible Authentication Protocol Identity (EAP ID) and Single-Network Slice Selection Assistance Information (S-NSSAI) for the UE device; and
sending, by the network device and in response to the request, an authentication request to a NSSAA function (NSSAAF), wherein the authentication request includes the EAP ID and the S-NSSAI.
