1. A communication apparatus for deployment as a node in a mesh communication network, the communication apparatus comprising:
a transmitter;
a receiver;
a memory that stores instructions; and
a processor that executes the instructions to perform operations, the instructions comprising:
instructions for receiving from another node of a network a packet for relay to a destination network node;
instructions for randomly selecting (i) a network node to which to transmit the packet and (ii) a transmission mode by which to transmit the packet to the randomly selected network node; and
instructions for transmitting the packet to the randomly selected network node using the randomly selected transmission mode.
