1. An energy storage device comprising:
at least two semiconductor layers disposed opposite of each other, wherein at least one semiconductor layer comprises organic molecules with delocalized electrons complexed to a metal, and wherein the organic molecules are stacked to form crystalline particles, and wherein the particles are semiconductive and are substantially electrically interconnected; and
an inner layer disposed between the at least two semiconductor layers, wherein the inner layer is a semiconductor;
a first electrode electrically connected to a first side of the first semiconductor layer; and
a second electrode electrically connected to the second semiconductor layer.
