1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
receiving, by an electronic device associated with a pedestrian, an indication of a current operational mode transmitted by a nearby vehicle wherein the current operational mode of the nearby vehicle is one of autonomous, semi-autonomous, or manual; and
triggering, by the electronic device associated with the pedestrian, an alert based, at least in part, on a prevalence of vehicles in an area surrounding a current location of the electronic device, wherein statistical data indicating the prevalence of vehicles in the area surrounding the current location of the electronic device is retrieved from a database, the alert configured to notify a pedestrian of the current operational mode of the nearby vehicle.
