1. A method for making an optical fiber ribbon, comprising:
aligning a plurality of optical fibers parallel to and adjacent each other to form a ribbon-shaped group of fibers, each optical fiber having an ultraviolet (UV)-curable primary coating;
applying a UV-curable matrix material in intermittently distributed portions between and in contact with each pair of adjacent fibers along the ribbon-shaped group of fibers; and
exposing the ribbon-shaped group of fibers and applied matrix material to ultraviolet (UV) light concentrated in a second range of wavelengths absorbed more by the matrix material than by the primary coating and not concentrated in a first range of wavelengths absorbed more by the primary coating than by the matrix material.
