1. A gas generator comprising:
a shell having a top interior surface and a bottom interior surface opposite the top interior surface; and
a cathode-anode assembly horizontally positioned in the shell and forming an elongated structure substantially parallel to the top interior surface and the bottom interior surface, the cathode-anode assembly comprising:
a first electrode including a layer of elemental arsenic; and
a second electrode surrounding the first electrode and forming a gap between the second electrode and the first electrode, the second electrode including a plurality of channels along a length of the second electrode, one or more first channels of the plurality of channels being open towards the top interior surface of the shell,
wherein the plurality of channels allow circulation of electrolyte within and around at least a portion of the cathode-anode assembly, and the one or more first channels allow gases, generated in response to current applied to the cathode-anode assembly and directed towards the one or more first channels, to escape from the cathode-anode assembly.
