An ornithine decarboxylase variant, comprising an amino acid substitution at a position corresponding to position a) 713, b) 698, or c) 713 and 698 of SEQ ID NO: 1, and having at least 80% but less than 100% sequence identity to the polypeptide of SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein the substitution of the amino acid at the 713th position is A713L, A7131, A713V, A713R, A713D, A713W, or A713Q, and/or wherein the substitution of the amino acid at the 698th position is E698D.
