1. A conveyor component monitoring system for monitoring at least one characteristic of at least one conveyor roller, the system including:
at least one sensor, processor and transmitter associated with each said conveyor roller, each sensor being provided substantially within a shaft of the respective conveyor roller, each sensor adapted to sense at least one characteristic of a respective conveyor roller and produce sensor data representative of said sensed characteristic,
each processor configured to determine when a predetermined abnormal characteristic is sensed, and,
each transmitter configured to only transmit said sensor data when said abnormal characteristic is sensed;
a central server, adapted to receive said transmitted sensor data, process said sensed data to generate status data in relation to each conveyor roller; and,
a user interface, adapted to receive said status data from said central server and provide maintenance information to a user indicative of any maintenance required to be performed on said conveyor roller.
