1. An intrauterine contraceptive system comprising:
an insertion device comprising a distal end configured to contain an intrauterine contraceptive device, wherein the insertion device is configured to release the intrauterine contraceptive device into a uterus when the insertion device is inserted into the uterus;
an intrauterine contraceptive device, wherein the intrauterine contraceptive device is in a delivery configuration when contained within the distal end of the insertion device and wherein the intrauterine contraceptive device is configured to expand to a deployable configuration after being deployed from the distal end of the insertion device;
a retrieval thread permanently attached to the intrauterine contraceptive device;
a release thread releasably coupled to the intrauterine contraceptive device and configured to secure the intrauterine contraceptive device to the distal end of the insertion device, wherein the release thread is configured to be pulled off the intrauterine contraceptive device to release the intrauterine contraceptive device from the insertion device.
