1. A side-deliverable prosthetic heart valve, the prosthetic valve comprising:
an outer frame defining a central channel extending along a central axis of the outer frame, the outer frame having a distal subannular anchoring element extending from a distal wall of the outer frame, a distal end of the distal subannular anchoring element having a guide wire coupler configured to be threaded over a guide wire; and
a flow control component mounted within the central channel of the outer frame, the flow control component having an inner frame and a set of leaflets coupled to the inner frame,
the prosthetic valve configured to be folded along a longitudinal axis and compressed along the central axis to place the prosthetic valve in a compressed configuration for side delivery via a delivery catheter in which the guide wire coupler is threaded over the guide wire and is distal to the central axis as the prosthetic valve is advanced through the delivery catheter,
the prosthetic valve configured to transition to an expanded configuration when released from the delivery catheter, the distal subannular anchoring element configured to be in an extended configuration during deployment of the prosthetic valve into an annulus of a native valve and, in response to the guide wire being withdrawn from the guide wire coupler, is configured to transition to a folded configuration in which at least one of native leaflet or chordae can be secured between the distal anchoring element and the distal wall of the outer frame.
