1. A method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:
receiving, from an upstream relay/repeater unit (RU), an indication of an amplification gain that will be used by the RU when relaying or repeating messages to the UE;
receiving a plurality of messages from the RU, each message having an indicated power and a receive power; and
estimating a channel between the UE and the RU based on the amplification gain and on the indicated power and the receive power of the plurality of messages from the RU.
