1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
circuitry; and
a memory storing computer-executable instructions that cause the circuitry to execute:
registering a type of an external server in association with a setting of storing data in a web browser, the setting of storing data including ON and OFF with a default setting being OFF;
requesting an information processing system connected via a network to transmit an authentication method and the type of the external server for the authentication method;
receiving the authentication method and the type of the external server from the information processing system;
in a case in which the authentication method is a first method using the external server,
determining whether the setting of storing data is ON according to the setting registered for the received type of the external server,
in response to determining that the setting of storing data is ON, changing the setting of storing data in the web browser from OFF to ON,
in response to determining that the setting of storing data is OFF, leaving the setting of storing data OFF as the default setting, and
displaying, by using the web browser, a screen for receiving an operation according to the authentication method, upon connecting to the external server; and
in a case in which the authentication method is a second method other than the first method using the external server,
displaying an authentication screen unique to the image forming apparatus.
