1. A method for dynamically enhancing video images presented through a display in a vehicle, comprising:
measuring, with a forward looking light sensor within the vehicle, a forward looking light entering the vehicle and visible to an occupant to generate a forward looking luminance value;
measuring, with an ambient light sensor within the vehicle, an ambient light within the vehicle and present at the display to generate an ambient luminance value;
determining, with an electronic control unit within the vehicle, external factors influencing symbology of human visibility for the video images to be presented through the display in response to the forward looking luminance value and the ambient luminance value;
receiving imaging properties for the video images at the electronic control unit;
processing the external factors and the imaging properties in the electronic control unit according to an image enhancement process, the image enhancement process creating a plurality of enhanced setpoint voltages that establish a variable gamma transfer function operable for maintaining symbology of the video images against the external factors; and
directing the display to present the video images according to the variable gamma transfer function.
