wherein the base portion is a thin plate formed of an inelastic material and having a U-shaped planar contour configured to extend along a shape of an occlusal surface of a dental arch of a jaw on which the orthodontic appliance is to be worn;
wherein one surface of the base portion, configured to oppose the dental arch, is a U-shaped mounting surface that is horizontally flat, and an opposite surface of the base portion constitutes an occlusal surface;
wherein the fitting portion comprises a movement member configured for fitting on a tooth intended for movement, and a gripping member configured for fitting on a tooth unintended for movement;
wherein the movement member comprises:
a pair of orthodontic tooth surface pads configured to conform to a post-movement position and condition of a crown surface of the tooth intended for movement and to cover both a buccal side and a lingual side of the crown of the tooth intended for movement; and
an orthodontic resilient member configured for attaching the pair of orthodontic tooth surface pads to the base portion so that the pair of orthodontic tooth surface pads protrude from the horizontally flat mounting surface of the base portion in directions intersecting the horizontally flat mounting surface, and for applying an orthodontic force and a gripping force to the pair of orthodontic tooth surface pads with respect to the base portion;
wherein the gripping member comprises:
a pair of gripping tooth surface pads configured to conform to a crown surface of of the tooth unintended for movement and to cover both a buccal side and a lingual side of the crown of the tooth unintended for movement; and
a gripping resilient member configured for attaching the pair of gripping tooth surface pads to the base portion so that the pair of gripping tooth surface pads protrude from the horizontally flat mounting surface of the base portion in directions intersecting the horizontally flat mounting surface, and for applying a gripping force to the pair of gripping tooth surface pads with respect to the base portion.
