1. A surgical stapler comprising:
a first jaw including an anvil;
a second jaw including a cartridge having a plurality of staples and extending from a proximal end to a distal end, the first jaw movable towards and away from the second jaw; and
a cartridge lift disposed between the second jaw and the cartridge, the cartridge lift biased in a longitudinal direction to raise the cartridge towards the first jaw, wherein the cartridge lift is biased in a proximal longitudinal direction; and
wherein the second jaw comprises a plurality of slots disposed therein and the cartridge comprises a plurality of protrusions positioned and shaped to slide within the plurality of slots.
