1. A method for operating a robot, comprising:
storing, with a liquid reservoir disposed on the robot, liquid for mopping;
releasing, with an electronically-controlled liquid release mechanism comprising a motor disposed on the robot, liquid stored within the liquid reservoir disposed on the robot to be applied to a work surface for mopping;
wherein, using a processor of the robot, the robot is paired with an application of a communication device, and the application of the communication device is configured to receive:
a first user input designating a schedule for mopping; and
a second user input designating a rate of liquid released during mopping of an area;
and wherein:
the robot comprises a sensor to determine a floor type of the work surface;
the motor of the electronically-controlled liquid release mechanism effectuates operations to release liquid onto the work surface when the floor type is a hard floor; and
ceases to operate and the release of liquid stops when the floor type is a carpet.
