1. A protective headband for a head of a wearer, comprising:
an elastic substrate loop having an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, an open top, and an open bottom so that the inner surface is configured to directly contact a portion of the head of the wearer when the protective headband is worn;
a front pad assembly coupled to the elastic substrate loop;
a rear pad assembly coupled to the elastic substrate loop and opposite the front pad assembly;
a left side pad assembly coupled to the elastic substrate loop and positioned between the front pad assembly and the rear pad assembly;
a right side pad assembly coupled to the elastic substrate loop and opposite the left side pad assembly,
each pad assembly having a) an outer edge having with an outward facing surface that is directly attached to the inner surface of the elastic substrate loop to couple the pad assembly to the elastic substrate loop, b) an inner fabric layer configured to face the head of the wearer, c) a cushion member adjacent to the inner fabric layer, and d) an outer shell opposite the inner fabric layer defining the outward facing surface, and adjacent to the cushion member, wherein the inner fabric layer and the outer shell encapsulate the cushion member; and
elastic sections positioned between adjacent pad assemblies, wherein the elastic sections are configured to provide flexibility to the protective headband.
