1. A battery safety system comprising:
a housing enclosing a plurality of batteries;
a valve disposed at one end of the housing, the valve including:
a valve base including one or more openings through which off-gases including analytes released from at least one of the plurality of batteries during a venting event exit the housing and dissipate into the surrounding environment; and
a hollow stem extending from the valve base into the housing; and
a porous membrane disposed between the valve base and the hollow stem to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering the housing; and
a chemical sensing device disposed in fluidic contact with the off-gases including the analytes flowing through the one or more openings and the hollow stem towards the surrounding environment, the chemical sensing device including at least one sensor configured to detect a presence of one or more of the analytes.
