1. A heterogeneous desulfurization catalyst, comprising:
a solid catalyst comprising:
a support comprising Al2O3 in an amount of at least 95 wt. %, based upon total support weight, the support being inert to desulfurization at ambient conditions;
copper (II) ions upon and impregnated within the support in an amount of at least 95 wt. %, based upon total catalytically active metals in the catalyst at the ambient conditions, and
a liquid comprising at least 75 wt. % H2O, based upon total solvent weight, and at least one selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol and n-butanol,
wherein the heterogeneous desulfurization catalyst is in the form of an aqueous suspension having a solid-liquid ratio, measured as solid catalyst mass per mass of liquid, in a range of from 0.01 to 1.5.
