1. A method comprising:
detecting a dropped packet in a network switch, wherein the dropped packet was dropped by a pipeline;
generating in the network switch a visibility packet which includes the dropped packet dropped by the pipeline and one or more additional headers;
routing the visibility packet to the pipeline of the network switch that processed and dropped the dropped packet;
processing the visibility packet in the pipeline that dropped the dropped packet;
storing processing information associated with the processing of the visibility packet by the pipeline that dropped the dropped packet; and
providing at least a portion of the stored processing information to a dropped packet information collector.
