1. A system comprising:
a first node; and
a second node communicatively coupled to the first node via a network that implements a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), wherein the second node is configured to:
send, to the first node, DHCP binding information that comprises a mapping of a unique identifier of the first node to an Internet Protocol (IP) address;
receive a negative acknowledgement of unsuccessful installation of the DHCP binding information from the first node;
identify, within the negative acknowledgement, data indicating that the first node failed to successfully install the DHCP binding information due at least in part on a transient error, the second node having been programmed to:
resend the DHCP binding information if the data indicates that the install failed due to the transient error; and
refuse to resend the DHCP binding information if the data indicates that the install failed due to a permanent error;
resend the DHCP binding information to the first node due at least in part to the transient error; and
receive an acknowledgement of successful installation of the DHCP binding information from the first node after resending the DHCP binding information.
