1. A wireless node apparatus for a mm wave radio communication mesh network, the wireless node apparatus comprising:
a plurality of wireless modems arranged to communicate using mm wave radio communication links formed with wireless modems of other nodes, each of at least some wireless modems of the plurality of wireless modems comprising a directional antenna arrangement having directional beams formed in directions within a beam direction interval, the beam direction interval for different wireless modems being different, each wireless modem of the plurality of wireless modems being configurable in different configuration modes including a first configuration mode in which the wireless modem is configured as an access point wireless modem and a second configuration mode in which the wireless modem is configured as a non-access point wireless modem,
a wireless modem configured as an access point wireless modem being arranged to form mm wave radio communication links with non-access point wireless modems of other nodes and being arranged to transmit a beacon signal, and
a wireless modem configured as a non-access point wireless modem being arranged to form mm wave radio communication links with access point wireless modems of other nodes and not being arranged to transmit a beacon signal;
a configuration controller arranged to perform a node configuration to determine a configuration mode for at least one of plurality of wireless modems;
a detector arranged to perform a proximity detection indicating that a beam direction of a first wireless modem supporting a communication link to a remote node meets a proximity criterion with respect to an endpoint of a first beam direction interval of the first wireless modem; and
wherein the node configurator is arranged to initiate a node configuration in response to the proximity detection, the node configuration being arranged to determine a configuration mode for a second wireless modem in response to a configuration mode of the first wireless mode.
