1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
detecting a device orientation based on inputs from at least one of a gyroscope, a magnetometer, or an accelerometer;
determining a user's visual state by determining an eye dilation state of a user associated with an augmented reality device;
determining ambient light properties for an environment within which the augmented reality device is being used;
determining photometric parameters based on the device orientation, the eye dilation state of the user, and the ambient light properties;
based on the photometric parameters, applying a fragment shader to modify brightness properties of augmented reality elements to be provided within an augmented reality scene to generate modified augmented reality elements; and
generating the augmented reality scene comprising the modified augmented reality elements.
